HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – A measles outbreak in Washington has health officials in Humboldt County on high alert. They’re preparing for any possible case of measles on the North Coast.

The disease is making a comeback and it’s a fatal disease for anyone who is not vaccinated. It is also highly contagious. Symptoms of the diseases include a fever, cough, and red and watery eyes. Anyone who is infected with the disease can be contagious for about nine days.

Both adults and children are susceptible.

The Department of Health and Human Services is stocking up on treatments. Experts say, the best way to fight the disease is to be vaccinated and have your children vaccinated.
