Pursuit for robbery suspect ends with crash in Eureka

EUREKA (KIEM)- One man is arrested after a vehicle pursuit ends with  a crash in Eureka. Just after eight this morning, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office received a call of a burglary in progress on the 7500 block of Elk River Court.

Deputies spotted the suspects 4Runner that was carrying a stolen trailer. A pursuit ensued but was later called off after the vehicle crashed into a car at Harris and Harrison Street.

The SUV was then located on J Street where spike strips were deployed. The 4Runner later crashed into a Nissan Sentra at 14th and F Street.

The male suspect, 44 year-old Arthur John Howatt JR, was arrested on charges of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle evading and violation of post release community supervision.

A female passenger was detained and released.

The female driver of the car was injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.

Several parked vehicles were also damaged in the crash.
