EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – By unanimous decision, the Eureka City Council will soon be accepting proposals for comprehensive marketing services. Tonight’s council meeting a majority of the room in favor of requests for proposals.

The city’s transient occupancy tax (TOT) has been funding a large portion of the Eureka-Humboldt Visitors Bureau for 40 years. The city spends about 370,000 dollars annually. That money goes towards making connections and bringing tourist to our rural area. Now, marketing firms or even someone in an office in Eureka can submit a proposal on how Eureka should be advertised, promoted, and marketed to the state, the nation, and the world.

During public comment, most people were in support of a change in how Eureka is marketed. The cities contract with the Eureka-Humboldt Visitors Bureau ends june 1st.
