EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – An unusual amount of close calls and fatal collisions have taken place right outside of Eureka. Since January of 2016, 4 collisions involving pedestrians have occurred on Highway 101 between King Salmon and the south end of Eureka.

Now that may not seem like too high of a number, but all these incidents happened within less than a mile from each other. Here are the potential reasons why.

California Highway Patrol recommends pedestrians wear bright clothing with reflectors or a wear a headlamp, and if no sidewalks or trails are available to be sure to stay as far away from the road as possible. For motorist make sure you have working headlights and keep your windows clean.
