HSU Leading Sustainable Campus out of CSU Campuses

ARCATA, Ca. (KIEM) – A new California State University policy plans to eliminate disposable plastic items. This includes using reusable and compostable products and Humboldt State University is leading the way.

Last Fall, HSU eliminated plastic straws in its dining services.

Back in 2011, HSU also eliminated the use of plastic water bottles. In 2014, HSU stopped using plastic bags on campus.

By 2023, all CSU campuses will eliminate the use of plastic straws, water bottles, and bags. The new policy was established back in December.

According to the new CSU policy, starting this year all campuses will no longer use plastic straws or bags. The university had already implemented these actions before the new policy.

Next year, HSU plans to add five more Hydration Water Stations on campus.
