Ferndale Firefighters compete against each other in Firemen’s games

FERNDALE, Ca., (KIEM) – Firefighters from the Ferndale Fire District compete against each other in their Firemen’s games.

They do this once a year during the winter season. The volunteer department split up in teams to see who can do the different activities the fastest.

They include hose relays, where each team has to be able to connect them together from the engine and shoot a target with water.

The second challenge is bucket brigade, where you have to get 50 gallons of water from one location to another. This is something that started in Ferndale in the 50’s.

The slowest team has to cook food for the entire fire district. And the winning team gets handed the traditional ax for a year and bragging rights.
