McKinley Statue to be relocated?

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) Coming up in the city of Arcata, a discussion on where to relocate the William McKinley Statue that stands tall on the city’s plaza.

About a year after city leaders voted to remove the McKinley Statue, council now plans to discuss the removal which will happen this wednesday. The Arcata City Council will also discuss where the statue could be relocated.

Officials said there have been several offers to cover relocation costs- from donors across the country. There is also a public offer from the city of Canton, Ohio, previous home to McKinley and the home to his burial site.

A staff report stated that the city has, “agreed to pay all relocation costs to canton and to assist the city with at least a portion of the costs incurred to date.”

That Arcata City Council meeting will be on Wednesday at 6 pm in Arcata City Hall.
