Fortuna City Council makes revisions to second reading of Needle Exchange Ordinance

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – After a two hour long discussion, the Fortuna City Council decides to again make changes on the second reading of its Needle Exchange Ordinance.

This comes after they made revisions based off concerns from the community concern, and input from the Department of Health and Human Services at the meeting tonight. As the council was going through the ordinance, there were things that needed to be worked out. Like clean-up events to get rid of needles laying around.

One woman who works in Fortuna is not completely satisfied with the revisions made. She does not think the Friendly City should have one-to-one needle exchanges.

The Fortuna City Council will do the third reading of the revised ordinance at its next meeting in April. If approved, the ordinance will go into effect 30 days after.
