Sheriff, DA against release of sexually violent predator in Southern Humboldt

EUREKA (KIEM)- An upcoming placement hearing will determine if a convicted violent sexual predator should live in southern Humboldt. That’s according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office.

The proposed placement for Joshua Cooley is a residence on the 2800 block of Alderpoint Road in Garberville.

Both the sheriff’s office and the district attorney strongly oppose to the placement due to what they say is a significant risk to the public.

Sheriff William Honsal encourages the public to attend the hearing and send letters regarding Cooley’s release to the DA’s office.

The address is 825 5TH Street, Eureka, CA 95501. The hearing is Friday, April 12th at 8:30 am in Superior Court Room 1.
