Humboldt County Tests its Emergency Alert System

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – If you received a strange alert today on your phone you’re probably not alone. That’s because Humboldt County tested their emergency alert system at 10 a.m. They did so through text message, voice call, and email.

It’s part of the ongoing Tsunami Preparedness Week and to warn North Coasters of a potential tsunami disaster.

Residents who are signed up with the Humboldt Alert System received texts, calls, or emails. But if you’re phone remained silent and you’d like to be warned ahead of a potential disaster, residents need to sign up. The sheriff’s office says, these alerts are *only used in emergencies.

These tests are done twice a year.

Anyone who is interested in receiving alerts can go to www.humboldtgov.org/alerts.
