HCSO: Shooter acted in self-defense

EUREKA (KIEM)- We have an update to a shooting earlier in the week in southern Humboldt.

After interviews and reviewing evidence, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office determined 65 year-old Thomas Neil Harris acted in self-defense. He was released from jail Thursday night.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon on Twin Trees Road near Benbow. Harris shot a 31 year-old man in the shoulder after what the sheriff’s office described as an on-going civil dispute between the two men.

The case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review and final determination of charges.
