Structure Fire, 1900 Block of 18th Street in Eureka

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) A house was engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon in Eureka. 

The fire took place on off West Avenue, near the corner of 18th Street and County Lane around 12 pm.

According to fire officials, the fire started in the garage of the home, which contained a hash lab.

Officials say the fire in the garage spread into the living space of the home before firefighters could put it out.

The garage suffered major damage and the residence minor damage.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire but say the cause of the fire was not due to the hash lab.

One person was at home when the fire broke out but was not injured.

Humboldt Bay Fire, Arcata Fire District, and the Eureka Police Department were on the scene.

Total damage is estimated at around $10,000.
