3 Measles cases identified

Northern California, (KIEM) – It’s not a very common disease, but it’s one that can kill you if untreated. And now we’re seeing an uptick in cases not far from the North Coast.

According to Trinity County Health and Human Services there have been 3 Measles cases identified in Shasta, Butte, and Tehama County combined. And they’ve all occurred within the last week and a half.

 Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads easily through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include high fever, coughing, and a unique rash that begins on the face and spreads down the body.

The areas where Shasta County identified possible exposure sources. In Redding at a Taco Bell on old Alturas Road. This case was reported on March 16 from 11-am to 4-pm and on March 17 from 6-am to noon, and the Shasta college 800 building and the Shasta college Library, both were recorded March 19 between 9:30 to 5-pm. A case of the Measles was also reported at the Raley’s supermarket on Lake Boulevard in Redding on March 19 from 11-am to 12:30-pm. If you think you have the Measles, seek medical attention and do not go out in public.

Contact the clinic, hospital or doctor’s office before arriving. Currently, trinity county public health has procedures in place for controlling the spread of measles. Officials claim they’ve addressed similar issues in the past. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
