Update on Humboldt Bay Harbor Shoaling Problem

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – An update on the Humboldt Bay Harbor crisis.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was at the spot of Buoy 9, they were searching for the chain that held the buoy.

If they’re able to locate the chain, the Coast Guard’s dive team is hoping to move it out on Friday.

Back in February, an emergency was declared for an area in the harbor near Buoy 9. At last check, the entrance into the bay is severely shallow.

One official has considered the situation life-threatening.

If all goes well, a dredge from the US Army Corps of Engineers is expected to be here next month. It’s to take care of the serious wave shoaling problem.
