Eureka City Council unanimously votes to update current smoking rules

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – By unanimous decision, the Eureka City Council has voted to modify the smoking chapter, in Eureka’s in Municipal Code. Thus continuing the necessary steps to allowing on-site cannabis consumption.

At Tuesday nights meeting, the entire council was in attendance except for Council Member Heidi Messner. After a brief summary of the conflict between chapter 158 and chapter 97 of Eureka’s Municipal Code, the approved text amendment now match state law. however, during public comment, community members expressed their concerns about second-hand smoke.

Following this decision, the council will soon be accepting requests for proposals. City Staff told Redwood News 18 cannabis businesses have already shown interest in opening a cannabis lounge.
