Woman arrested for assault with a deadly weapon

DEL NORTE COUNTY, CA. (KIEM) – A woman is awaiting trial after she allegedly shot her husband in the hand.

The incident happened at 5:30 on Monday, at a residence on Gilbert Way and Smith River.CHP and Smith River Fire assisted the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office in detaining 68-year-old Diane Linda Nevarez. Who reportedly shot her husband then jumped off the balcony into some thick bushes. After a search of the area authorities finally found Nevarez and placed her under arrest.

She now faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse. The husband was treated at the local hospital and was released in stable condition.
