Motorcyclist dies in crash following high speed chase in Blue Lake

BLUE LAKE, Ca (KIEM)- A motorcyclist is dead after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase.

Just before 2 Wednesday afternoon, a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy traveling eastbound on State Route 299 noticed a motorcyclist, identified as 26 year-old Dylan Lafranchi,  going over 100 miles per hour.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop at the Blue Lake exit, but Lafranchi fled. Due to the high speeds and the danger to the public, the pursuit was terminated at the intersection of Blue Lake Boulevard and Greenwood Road.

The sheriff’s office said Lafranchi continued on Blue Lake Boulevard where he later crashed. He was transported by ambulance to Mad River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
