HUMBOLDT BAY HARBOR, CA (KIEM) – We continue our conversation regarding the Humboldt Harbor entrance. The mud level at the Harbor Entrance will hurt Commercial Fishermen’s pockets if they’re unable to leave and comeback as they please. Their boats are not making any money when they’re sitting there docked. We spoke with one local fisherman who was surprised to hear how shallow parts of the Harbor Entrance are.

According to Larry Oetker, no reported incidents have occurred in the water since the harbor entrance has become shallow. After Congress approved $8 Million for the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge the Humboldt Bay Harbor, we will find out in June if they can dredge it successfully. We will be sure to follow-up on this story when that happens.
