Public provides input on potential Aquafarm set for Humboldt Bay

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) A European based aqua-culture company wants to bring a $400 million fish-farm to the North Coast.

Tuesday night, the company Nordic Aquafarms held a public meeting so the community can get familiar with the proposal and to explore their concerns for the aquafarm.

The company plans to develop a fish farm right along the Samoa Peninsula located near the former mill site.

The company said they picked Humboldt Bay because it fit the bill after taking a scientific approach looking at sites from Santa Cruz to the Canadian border.

“Okay access to fresh water. Infrastructure in place substation and a great Community for people to live in and work in and also the HSU which is really important,” Marianne Naess, the company’s Commercial Director.

The fish farm is said to help create dozens of jobs and help with economic development.

Nordic Aquafarms said, they received excellent feedback from residents and hope to complete the permitting process by the end of next year.
