Garberville man in critical condition after small plane crash

GARBERVILLE, Ca (KIEM)-A Garberville man is lucky to be alive after his small plane crashed in southern Humboldt.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office, a 48 year-old man had been practicing taking off and landing his 1970’s era Cessna plane Sunday afternoon at the Garberville Airport. The man told authorities the plane’s engine lost power causing it to crash into some trees.

The man was able to walk up a bluff to Sprowl Creek Road where a passerby transported him to the hospital for treatment.

He was later flown to an out of the area hospital and is listed in critical condition.

 The cause of the crash is under investigation by the NTSB.
