Mad River Community Hospital Brings Back Bed Relay Race

ARCATA, CA (KIEM) – Many of us can imagine how stressful working in the health care field can be, and sometimes they could use a little de-stressor. Mad River Community hospital staffers in Arcata run with hospital beds in a relay race.

Employees from different departments split up into four teams. The object of the friendly competition was to run the bed down to the speed bump. Before three other team members have to run it back to the finish line. This event is something the hospital has not done in eight years.

“Definitely something that we were interested in. Just as far as getting everybody out and having a good time. And heard a couple of the people that have been here for a while. Saying you know that was a really good thing, we had fun doing that in the past. Why [don’t] we bring that back,” said Jason Orlandi, Director of Nursing.

The Rapid Response team took home the 2019 Mad River Community Hospital Bed Race Plaque. The hospital plans to do it again next year.
