Northbound 101 closed after SUV slams into power pole in Eureka

EUREKA, CA (KIEM)-A girl learning to drive with her dad ends up crashing into a power pole in Eureka.

It happened just before 8 pm Thursday at the intersection of Fifth and S Street. According to police, the female driver was leaving the McDonald’s parking lot and went off the roadway and struck the pole knocking out power to over 100 customers.

As of midnight, the roadway was still closed while PG&E crews repair the damaged pole and power lines. Humboldt Bay Fire and Eureka police provided traffic control at the scene.

There were no injuries in the crash.
