Trinidad Teenager Sustains Major Injuries in Solo Crash

CRANNELL ROAD, CA (KIEM) – A motorist not wearing her seat belt sustains major injuries after a solo crash in Northern Humboldt.

At around 12:15 Tuesday afternoon, 17-year-old Trinidad resident Iya Sol Ortiz-Beck was driving a Volkswagen Beetle southbound on Highway 101 near the Crannell Road Exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the car drifted in the center median and overturned on its roof. Ortiz-Beck was thrown from the vehicle.

She was transported by ambulance to Mad River Hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
