Fortuna man arrested on drug charges

FORTUNA, Ca (KIEM)-A traffic stop lands on man in jail after Fortuna Police find two pounds of methamphetamine.

Detective Brian Taylor on Wednesday pulled over a Honda Accord for a traffic violation on Riverwalk Drive. The detective smelled marijuana coming from the car and called for a K-9 to assist in a search. Police say two boxes with meth inside were found in a duffel bag inside the car.

The passenger, 23 year-old Miguel Villalobos of Fortuna, was booked into the Humboldt County Jail on suspicion for transportation or sale of a controlled substance.

The driver, 18 year-old Angelica Villalobos, also from Fortuna, was released at the scene.

The two detective positions are funded by the Measure E tax approved by Fortuna voters in November.
