Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — Tonight, the Eureka City Council approved a grant proposal to improve the area surrounding Cooper Gulch. The proposal was put together by grassroots group Cooper Gulch Common Grounds and the city.
The proposal hopes to secure funding under prop 68 to create safer parks and greater trail access, support habitat conservation, and build connections to the Eureka waterfront trail. If the submitted grant proposal moves on to the next round, the state will do a site visit before final approval. One member of Cooper Gulch Common Grounds, Christy Prescott, hopes that this will help bring more public attention to the park.
