Crescent City Police Chief to Retire in September

CRESCENT CITY, CA (KIEM) – In a surprise announcement, Crescent City Police Chief Ivan Minsal will retire in September.

The decision comes after 38 years of service in law enforcement. Minsal started his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1981 before coming to Del Norte County.

He has spent the last 4 and a half years as the Crescent City Police Chief. The department is currently at full staff and is in the process of adding a school resource officer.

When Minsal hangs up his badge, he will enjoy retirement with his wife.

“Every partnership there’s a senior partner, and she’s the senior partner. She’s put up with the calls in the middle of the night. She’s put up with the long hours. So I owe it to my life partner to engage with her. And my wife’s been great. I have the greatest wife in the world. Most understanding. I’ve learned so much from her,” said Ivan Minsal, Crescent City Police Chief.

Minsal’s last day on the job is September 8th. That will be the exact same day he started his career in Law Enforcement 38 years ago.
