Timber Heritage Association Offers Rides On Historic Crew Speeder Car

Samoa, Ca. (KIEM) — Today, people could take a scenic ride on one of the historic crew speeder cars at the Samoa Cookhouse. The train is run by the Timber Heritage Association.

The train car is from the 1930s and was originally used to transport loggers and timber workers out into the woods. The historic and scenic ride is about 20 minutes long and goes from Samoa to Manila. Riders can learn about railroad history and take in the views of Humboldt Bay. The rides are just one way the association fundraises to support their restoration projects and future expansion.

If you weren’t able to make it out today, the association will be offering rides in old town Eureka on July 4th, or you can head down to Samoa Cookhouse every third Saturday of the month.
