City of Fortuna to Celebrate Independence Day, a day early

Fortuna, Ca. (KIEM) The 4th of July is slowly but surely approaching and with Independence Day nearly 2 weeks away the Friendly City is welcoming county resident’s to celebrate a day early.

The city of Fortuna will celebrate its 11th annual fireworks festival.

A celebration to honor our nation’s freedom and also the founder of the city’s festival Dennis Wendt

Mr. Wendt started the fireworks festival to give the community an affordable, family-friendly, patriotic event to enjoy.

Thanks to donations from community sponsorship’s the festival is free to attend with low-cost activities for children of all ages.

Activities will include 8 bounce houses; a rock climbing wall, Shriners clowns and balloon art, a baby animal petting zoo for the little ones and Nature Joe will have a reptile petting zoo with all things creepy & crawly for those more adventurous. The festival will also have old fashion potato sack races, tug of war and a kid’s ice cream eating contest. The Fortuna Fire Department will again be hosting the popular kids Firemen style challenges on the grass.

New this year, for an additional charge, a dunk tank with surprise guests will be available to keep kids of all ages busy.

And for the adults, a BBQ will begin at 5:30 PM. Tah-Dah productions will be spinning tunes throughout the event, then after dark falls it’s time for a light show that kicks off the biggest out door dance party on the coast to entertain the crowd before the fireworks.

The Fortuna firework festival will be Tuesday, July 3rd from 5:30 to 10:30 pm at Newburg Park in Fortuna. The firework show will begin at dark.
