County Gives Update on Humboldt Bay Area Plan

SAMOA, CA (KIEM) – The County Planning and Building Department gives an update on the Humboldt Bay Area Plan.

During the presentation, the county went over Sea Level Rise, Tsunami awareness, Coastal Dependent Industrial Land use, and a Wastewater Treatment Plant using the outfall pipe.

Some concerned residents at the meeting asked questions about the process of the plan. The County wants to make Humboldt a better place for everyone.

“We’re working on modifying the land uses to address some of the vacant industrial land. Industrial land is related to coastal-dependent industrial uses. So that we can perhaps get a little better mix of uses out here to support the local economy,” said John Ford, the Director of Planning and Building for Humboldt County.

The next steps are to take the updated plan to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors in hopes for review and approval.
