Higher Gas Prices Lead To More Electric Vehicles

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — California’s new gas tax went into effect on Monday and now, drivers across the state are feeling the pain at the pump.

With higher gas prices, some drivers are turning to more fuel-efficient options or even to fully-electric vehicles. They want to be environmentally friendly while saving some money at the same time.

One local dealership has seen an increase in electric car sales and predicts that number will keep going up as a result of the recent tax.

“Electric and hybrid sales have increased lately due to the fact of people wanting to save the environment more than gas prices, but now with the upswing of gas prices I do think sales will increase,” Jeff Clayton from Harper Motors Ford said.

California is one of 13 states to raise gas taxes. Prices in the state have reached the highest nationwide.
