Investigation continues after fatal Humboldt Hill crash

HUMBOLDT HILL, Ca-The investigation continues after a truck crashed into a Humboldt Hill residence killing one of the home owners.

Last Friday night, 25 year-old Fields Landing resident Ryder Stapp was driving a ford truck on Humboldt Hill Road. the truck went off the roadway, struck a sign and crashed into a home killing 64 year-old Bob Beland and injuring his wife, 62 year-old Elizabeth Martin.

Stapp, who posted bail, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

CHP investigators were back at the crash site Wednesday morning using 3D laser survey equipment. They documented physical evidence at the scene and were trying to determine how fast the truck was going.

Beland owned Humboldt Lock and Safe in Eureka. The business is closed indefinitely and a GoFundMe page has already raised $10,000.
