Community of McKinleyville encourages residents to come and play; at Music in the Park

McKinleyville, Ca., (KIEM) Come one come all as McKinleyville invites you to come out to music in the park.

The McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce and McKinleyville Community Service District join forces to bring families, friends, and community together.

The evening will be filled with live music, a variety of lawn games, and food trucks.

Lesley Frisbee, Recreational Director for The McKinleyville Community Service District said, it’s good to see more sponsors and more people attending. A few years ago that was not the case.

“About three years ago Park and Rec. try to get people in the park so we started doing lawn games on Thursday evenings,” said Frisbee. “It was a free event but we weren’t really getting much of a turnout…then the Chamber approached us with this idea to do music in the park.”

Since then, organizers said due to the collaboration, the turn out has been rewarding.

“It is growing,” shared Stephanie Garber, Committee Chair of the event. “Last year, we started out the first one with 60 people. This year we averaged over 350 people for the first three of the nine events that we have.”

Music in the Park is every Thursday from 6-8 PM at Pierson Park.  The last event will be August 15.
