Fortuna to move Power Lines underground on 12th Street

FORTUNA, Ca (KIEM)– The City of Fortuna is moving power lines underground on 12th Street.

The Friendly City wants to improve the aesthetic between L Street and Newburg Road. PG&E is conducting the project and will install the lines through trenches. It also includes AT&T and Suddenlink Communication lines.

Funding for the project comes from Fortuna residents’ utility bills. PG&E calls it the Rule 20A program.

“A small amount of everybody’s power bill every month gets set aside for that purpose. For communities to be able to underground utilities and improve the aesthetic of their community,” said Merritt Perry, Fortuna City Manager.

The project will be finished by the end of the year.
