Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — Come summertime, Eureka tends to see more tourists visiting the city. For some people, it’s their destination and for others, it’s just a stop along the way as they’re driving through. Redwood News got the chance to talk to someone from the visitor’s center and a few tourists about what draws people to the area.

When the weather gets warmer, more and more tourists are out and about around town. According to the executive director of the Eureka Visitor’s Center, Alanna Powell, tourist season starts the end of May and peaks around mid-July, beginning of August. It usually wraps up in October.

Some visitors have been here before. For others, it’s their very first time to the area. One tourist, Paul Adams, is originally from Southern California and has always wanted to visit the area to see the Redwoods. He had never gotten the chance before now.

For those passing through town, they can pop into the visitor’s center to learn more about Eureka or get some recommendations for their trip. When it comes to things to do, there is a little something for everyone.

According to Powell, the city really does have it all. People can experience nature then head over to old town to eat at one of the restaurants or pick up one of the locally made items.

The center always receives positive feedback from travelers. This year, people are coming from as far away as Germany and Australia. While it’s important to have tourism, it’s easy for locals to forget about all the things Eureka has to offer. Powell encourages locals to go out and be a tourist in their own city.
