Four Coast Guards to be remembered

EUREKA (KIEM)- The Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay Personnel are scheduled to host the 25th Memorial Anniversary. It’s to honor the Coast Guard Helicopter Crew of 6541.

At 10 A.M. on Friday at the Coast Guard Plaza, there will be a remembrance ceremony for the 4-person aircrew of 6541.

25 years ago, a “MH-65” Dolphin Helicopter crashed while responding to a sailing vessel in distress.

Heavy fog made the approach difficult and on their third attempt, the Dolphin stuck a shoreline cliff taking all four aircrews lives.

The Coast Guard says: “The crew of 6541 lived the rescuers motto, ‘so others may live.’”
