Del Norte County Supervisor says they will vote No on Compensation Ordinance

DEL NORTE COUNTY, Ca (KIEM)– First District Supervisor Roger Gitlin says he will vote no on a compensation ordinance that gives raises to Del Norte County Supervisors.

At their last meeting, the Del Norte Board of Supervisors moved forward on a 5-0 vote for a compensation ordinance. The purpose of it is to adjust the cost of living increase between 2007 and the present day.

When the agenda item is up for adoption at a future board meeting, Roger Gitlin is switching his vote. He believes the county does not have the money for the pay increase.

“They want to get certain people on the board who have other jobs. And they know that if they leave that other job, which is a noble cost, they’ll serve and have a living wage to live on. I think that’s noble and I appreciate that. But the reality is, we don’t have the money in Del Norte County,” said First District Supervisor Roger Gitlin.

The next Board of Supervisors meeting is on Tuesday, July 23rd.
