Multiple Vegetation Fires Burning in Mad River County Park

ARCATA (KIEM)– Multiple vegetation fires are burning at Mad River County Park near the mouth of the Mad River. Emergency personnel are expected to battle the roughly half dozen spot fires through the overnight hours.

According to reports, roughly three acres of vegetation have burned in total. Flames are reaching as high as 10-feet in some places, and smoke is extending over the Mad River into portions of McKinleyville. Fortunately, no homes are in danger at this time.

Humboldt Bay Fire, Arcata Fire, and CalFire crews are on the scene.

Officials have received reports that the fires were started by fireworks.
