Eel River Tribes Form Coalition in Support of Dam Removal

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — The Round Valley Indian Tribe, Wiyot Tribe, and Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria form a coalition to support the removal of the Eel River dams abandoned by PG&E.

The decision comes after the three tribes walked out of an ad hoc committee meeting on what to do with the dams and potter valley project.

Cal trout along with Humboldt, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties have a planning agreement for a regional entity that would decide what to do with the site. Currently, only the Round Valley Indian Tribe is mentioned in that agreement.

The coalition is asking for all three tribes to have a seat at the table during future discussions.
