Man in jail after running from police, flipping car resulting in vehicle fire

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) A man is arrested after running from police and flipping over a car.

Saturday police say a man driving a gray Volkswagen was first traveling Westbound on 4^th Street allegedly racing another car.

Officials say the driver then turned onto Broadway heading South and at some point lost control hitting a K-rail, fence and a light fixture around West Clark Street.

Police say the car ended up on the East side of Broadway flipped over and caught fire.

Authorities say the driver ran off but was arrested shortly after about a quarter-mile from the scene.

The driver’s name has not yet been released.
