Ferndale Library receives ADA upgrades

FERNDALE, Ca (KIEM)– Some improvements have been made to the Ferndale library with upgrades to one of their entrances and facility.

Humboldt County now requires all library branches to meet ADA standers. At the Ferndale Library, some new additions are an automatic door opener, changes to a ramp and braille signs.

Many local agencies worked together, so the cost of the changes was minimal. The upgrades are something some library-goers appreciate.

“Mainly they really enjoy the fact that we now have an automatic door opener. It used to be that they would have to press an outside bell, and I would come and open the door if they needed me to.  Or sometimes they would sort of balance with one hand, and push the door open with afoot,” said Bonnie von Braun, the Ferndale Library Branch Manager.

The city will have a grand opening for the new additions at the library next month.
