Cal Fire Assures Residents No Current Fire Threats in Humboldt or Del Norte Counties

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) –After receiving a number of calls about seeing smoke, Cal Fire wants to assure residents that there are currently no ongoing fire incidents occurring with the Humboldt and Del Norte unit.

According to Cal Fire, the drift smoke is a result of the Milepost 97 fire that is burning in Canyonville, Oregon. The fire broke out around 10 pm on Wednesday night and continues to grow. Roughly 6,000 acres have been burned. It’s burning in steep, rocky terrain with limited access. It’s also in an old fire scar that originally burned back in 1987.

Cal Fire urges residents to call 911 if they see a fire or observe a defined column of smoke with no public safety resources on scene.
