Del Norte County inmate found dead in cell

Del Norte County, Ca., (KIEM) A Del Norte County inmate is found dead in his cell and the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation.

According to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department, 33-year-old inmate Jason Proctor was found unresponsive in his cell last Wednesday just a little after 11:30 PM.

Officials said prison staff tried conducting life-saving techniques but was unsuccessful.

Proctor was later pronounced dead at Sutter Coast Hospital.

Proctor’s death is being investigated as an apparent suicide. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate death from ligature asphyxiation.

The final determination is pending.
