Eureka-Arcata Route 101 Corridor Improvement Project Up For Approval

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — The Eureka-Arcata Route 101 Corridor Improvement Project is up for approval at the California Coastal Commission’s Wednesday meeting.

The focus is on a 6 mile segment of Highway 101 between Eureka and Arcata along the east side of Humboldt Bay. The project would include: the construction of an undercrossing at the Indianola Cutoff intersection, longer acceleration and deceleration lanes, high tension cable median barriers to prevent vehicle crossovers, a replacement for the Jacoby Creek Bridge, replacing existing tide gates within the project limits, and the creation of roughly 22 acres of offsite wetland mitigation in the Humboldt Bay watershed. We spoke with Caltrans and they believe the project will help reduce the number of traffic collisions that occur along highway 101.

If the project is approved at Wednesday’s coastal commission meeting, Caltrans hopes to begin construction next year.
