CALIFORNIA (KIEM)– Senator Mike McGuire has introduced a bill mandating utility companies to provide early notifications prior to planned power shutdowns.
Residents, emergency officials and hospitals are left with the possibility of being caught off guard without notice. This could leave some in a life or death scenario.
McGuire didn’t like that, so he introduced SB 560.
McGuire says quote, “you shouldn’t have to create a law requiring utility companies to communicate with health care facilities and first responders prior to a planned power shutdown. But, we’ve unfortunately learned that this is necessary to ensure the health and safety of Californians.”
