After graduating from McKinleyville High School, Bryce Petersen spent one year playing college football at Riverside Community College. Now, Petersen is playing at the division one level in Ohio.

Petersen transferred to the University of Akron and it didn’t take long for the former McKinleyville Panther to make an impact. Petersen is a center on offense and started all 11 games for the Zips.

With a new season comes a new coaching staff. Akron hired former NFL quarterback and Ohio native Tom Arth to lead the program. The Zips went 4-8 last season and had just two wins in the MAC.

Petersen and the other linemen are getting ready for the 2019 season. They spend a large amount of time together both on and away from the field. Petersen said they he and his teammates are family.

The Zips open the season August 31 against Illinois.
