Klamath, Ca. (KIEM) — For many Yurok tribal members, they have been coming to the annual salmon festival for as long as they can remember. It’s an event they look forward to year after year.

The salmon festival is in its 57th year and is a way to celebrate the Yurok Tribe and their work in the community, but it also has deeper roots within their history and cultural heritage.

Some of the highlights were the Indian card game tournament, traditional basket weaving demonstration, classic car show, and of course, a delicious salmon dinner. For one tribal member, it’s all about the stick game tournament. People from all over came out to today’s event.

The tribe also wants to shed light on the importance of earth’s natural resources and the land they call home. They love the opportunity to share their culture and traditions with others. If you didn’t get a chance to make it out to today’s event and grab some salmon, you can check it out next year.
