Humboldt Bay Harbor Re-Opens

EUREKA (KIEM)- After being closed off for several months, the Humboldt Bay Harbor is re-open and emergency conditions removed.

Back in January, Humboldt Bay experienced significant sediment deposits in the entrance channel.

That resulted in extremely dangerous shoaling conditions and the closure of Humboldt Bay to commercial shipping.

Over the past months, the US Army Corps of Engineers removed approximately 1-point-1 million cubic yards of sediment from the entrance channel.

The Harbor District and Harbor Safety Committee are working with the Corps of Engineers to establish a long-term solution.
