Plane Crashes Into Ocean Outside Half Moon Bay Harbor

Half Moon Bay, Ca. (KIEM) — A small plane crashes five miles outside of half moon bay harbor while out on a photo shoot, and the entire incident was caught on camera.

Two people were on board, 34-year-old David Lesh and his friend Kayla. Lesh lost all power and couldn’t get the engine of the beech craft bonanza up and running. He had just purchased the aircraft a few weeks prior.

Owen Leipelt was piloting the lead plane and watched as Lesh’s aircraft hit the water. He contacted the U.S. Coast Guard but continued recording as Lesh and Kayla climbed onto the wing and bobbed in the water after the plane sank. U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued Lesh and Kayla and returned them safely to land.
