Local 10K+ Run honors late Navy SEAL

ARCATA, Ca (KIEM) – Sunday morning runners take off in a hilly 10K+ run at Arcata Community Forest in honor of the late Kevin Ebbert.

He’s a Humboldt County native who went on to become a Navy SEAL. Ebbert was unfortunately reportedly ambushed by a sniper attack during a mission in Afghanistan back in 2012. HealthSPORT and Six Rivers Running Club started this Memorial Trail Run six years ago to never forget Ebbert’s character. The consistent support touches his wife.

“To me, this is all I could help for. I think how Kevin would want to be remembered is through connection with nature and physical activity. Being here in Humboldt and Redwood Park is a place that he loves. The community showing up. And continuing to show their support for his memory almost seven years later, means so much to the family,” said Ursula Ebbert, Kevin’s wife.

“People to get out here and be healthy, and commune with this gorgeous place [is] totally what he would want,” said Charlie Jordan Ebbert, Kevin’s Mom.

All of the proceeds from Sunday’s run will go to PacOut Green Team for future community cleanups.
