World War II Veteran Camps Out in Scotia

Scotia, Ca., (KIEM) A World War II Veteran hit Highway 101 and headed to Scotia for the week.

96-year-old Emil Graveman of Petaluma California gassed up his 22-foot Chateau RV and set up camp at the Stafford RV Park in Scotia.

After the passing of his wife, Graveman said he frequently visits the Stafford Campground for the hospitality, companionship, and conversation.

One topic that comes up often is that Graveman served in World War II in Europe, where he served three years.

The veteran said he enlisted because he was tired of his friends dying and wanted to do something about it.

“We had five months of basic training in Salt Lake City. It was 300 of us there and I’d have to tell you it was rough. Kill or be killed, said the vet. “I seen guys come up with broken legs and arms. One of the friends that was already overseas said, if you make it there you’ll be alright overseas. I served until the Japanese and then both wars were over and I got out in January of 46.”
